Steve Reviews The Tree of Life
If you take out the 45 minutes that belongs in a Planet Earth documentary, you’re left with a fairly bland, 1960s drama with no likeable characters. If the film had just been THAT part, it would have been tolerable. However, director Terrence Malick didn’t know what he wanted to do, so we’re left with a cornucopia of stream-of-consciousness garbage that critics seem to drool over. I expect an un-deserving Best Picture nomination, as well as noms for art direction, costume, and cinematography. If it wasn’t so bad, I might even respect the effort.
Unless it makes the short list of Best Picture nominees, save yourself the 135 minutes
